Overview
The "Conference of the Parties" (COP) is the annual UN climate change conference. The mission of COP28, held in Dubai, was to assess global progress on climate goals for the first time (a process called the "Global Stocktake") and secure commitments from nations to accelerate action to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

Key Outcome
The most significant outcome of COP28 was a landmark agreement that, for the first time, called on all nations to begin "transitioning away from fossil fuels in energy systems, in a just, orderly and equitable manner" and to triple global renewable energy capacity by 2030.
